Group N transmission mount (5 speed). Will it ruin your daily driver?
Hey!... Welcome to another #modmonday. This week brings a look at my Group N 5 speed trans mount that was installed two months ago and the pros and cons about it.
When you are modding your daily driver their are a few areas you want to take note of which are noise, vibration and harshness. The Group N trans mount adds these things but to what extent?
When starting the engine you can feel a slight increase in vibration throughout the seat. Not enough to bother me but it is noticeable. You can also feel it through the pedals in the right rpm ranges, once again noteworthy but nothing excessive.
After the engine is started how much is transmitted through noise? With my quiet 04-07 STi midpipe and muffler you can hear the trans during the first 1500-3000 rpms. It is a nice low rumble that I actually enjoy, it is not too much and fills in where the exhaust isn't audible.
I haven't felt any additional harshness in the vehicle but given it has mostly stock everything else, it would be difficult for one bushing to cause this issue.
Being in my daily I wouldn't call any of those "complaints" but noticeably differences. Overall I have enjoyed the lack of transmission roll and crisper feeling in shifts. There is much less engine and transmission/engine dive when shifting. If you are looking for an upgrade I feel this is a great one for project cars and DDs alike.
